A Gift From Mobatta
Mobatta was kind enough to drop off the Free Crepe coupons they’d promised for tonight’s Mass Facebook Land-Grab:

The coupon cards are finished with a double-secret watermark to prevent copying, and should not be eaten (instead, give it to your cashier, who will provide you with a very edible and very-free sweet crepe).
See you tonight at 8:30.
A Safe Vay-cay
(Note: Luke is heading to Indonesia for some vay-cay, then on to serve in Iraq for a time)
Cameron: stay outta trouble over there in the sandbox man
we need to see you come back in one piece
Luke: in Indonesia, or Iraq? because i’m honestly more concerned about dying in Jakarta than i am Baghdad
Cameron: def, al-queda nightclub blasts watch out
Luke: hella tourists are dying from weird homemade alcohol
which makes me want to try it even more.
TweetUp Seattle!: Mass Facebook Land-Grab At Uptown Espresso (2504 4th Ave., Friday June 12th at 8:30PM)
Event: TweetUp Seattle! Mass Facebook Land-Grab At Uptown Espresso!
Date: Friday, June 12th 2009
Time: 8:30PM PST (or come a little early if you’d like and get your WiFi set-up!)
Where: Uptown Espresso (Belltown), 2504 4th Ave (4th and Wall), Seattle WA
Sponsored by:
On Friday, June 12th at 9:01PM PST, Facebook will open the floodgates and allow registered Facebook users to vie for coveted SEO real-estate: Facebook usernames. And Seattle is meeting up at an internet-traffic epicenter to ring in the occasion (1GB/s internet connection, 5 WiFi Access Points/APs). (Thanks goes out to Spectrum Networks for providing the superfast connection!).
Facebook usernames will look like this: facebook.com/yourusername, and they’ll be unimaginably important in the future when it comes to driving traffic to your profile, increasing accessibility to your profile, and building a personal brand.
Because thousands of people will attempt to grab their name at the same time, having the fastest and most direct internet connection will matter when it comes to connecting to Facebook’s servers during the deluge of traffic.
You’re invited to come early, grab a spot, get a nice cuppa joe (Uptown’s lattes and specifically their foam are legendary), chat with fellow Seattle geeks, and count down to Zero Hour with us! Bring friends and please re-blog and Re-Tweet this!
All attendees who can spot me (Cameron) at the event will receive a coupon for a free crepe from the fine folks at Mobatta!

A Noble Solution
I propose curbing gun violence not by further restricting the availability of guns but by expanding and reorienting it. Men would still be forbidden to walk the streets armed, in accordance with current laws, but women would be required to carry pistols in plain sight whenever they are out and about.
Were I to board the subway late at night, around Lincoln Center perhaps, and find it filled with women openly carrying Metropolitan Opera programs and Glock automatics, I’d feel snug and secure. A train packed with armed men would not produce the same comforting sensation. Maybe that’s because men have a disconcerting tendency to shoot people, while women display admirable restraint. Department of Justice figures show that between 1976 and 2005, 91.3 percent of gun homicides were committed by men, 8.7 percent by women.

A Classy Soiree
OldRoommate: how was ur house warming party?
OldRoommate: you and Jennifer dazzle everyone with all your fabulous ikea purchases?
OldRoommate: I bet your apt looks like a spread out of dwell magazine
MarriedMan: meh it was all couples
MarriedMan: hord’oeuvres and wine mostly
OldRoommate: so it was a classy affair?
MarriedMan: i don’t know, do you consider getting wasted, rummaging though the storage closet to find our old beer bong and then funneling two beers and a shot in front of a silent, shocked crowd classy?
OldRoommate: hahahahaha, wait you broke out Chewbacca?
MarriedMan: yeah, seemed like a good idea at the time
MarriedMan: but it wasn’t.

GMT Switch Today, Update Your Clocks!

On Learning New Skills
Guy Friend: I am so frustrated with [romantically pursuing this nice, innocent girl]
Like i have zero exp with true courtship
and i think that’s what she wants.
she contacts me if i don’t go out of my way to contact her
but she gives me no easy ins to see her or get closer
it’s really infuriating
Cameron: This courtship thing is a new skill, and you cannot expect to have it mastered on the first try.
That’s like going up to the plate on your first appearance in the majors and expecting to hit a Grand Slam.
That’s crazy talk.
Feeling Any Better?
Joan (who has bronchitis, too): Are you feeling any better, Cameron?
Cameron: Yeah, better than last night. Less phlegm. I’m not 100%, but improvement nonetheless.
Joan: I feel better too. But I’m on drugs.
Cameron: I love you, Joan.

My mind was blown by the strings on the beat, and the old-school 50′s/60′s feel they have.
Breakfast at Volunteer Park Café
(You can click on individual photos to enlarge):
This delightful creation is a strata (a cousin of quiche) filled with mushrooms and ham. I think it had some sweet cream/milk added to the egg mixture, adding just enough flavor and depth to make it unique, but not to overpower the senses (or the other flavors).
Coffee from Stumptown Coffee Roasters (some of the best brew in town).

Pike Place Market at Sunset

It was a very hot day (80+ degrees Fahrenheit), and the clouds rushed in late in the evening, adding some much needed color to the sunset.
Giant Pillowcases
Jeanna: plus-size clothes are TERRIBLE
they look like giant pillowcases with arm and head holes
